How to control calcium phosphate scale has become more important in cooling water systems. A wide range of homopolymers, copolymers and terpolymers able to provide calcium phosphate scale control and dispersion has been developed during the past thirty years. The relationship between the structure and properties of calcium phosphate disperser polymers, the influence of impurities, such as suspended matter and metal ions, on the performance of polymeric disperser used in phosphate-based programs have been studied. The development process of calcium phosphate disperser polymers briefly is reviewed. Its update performance data are presented and further study of these polymers are discussed.
