Abstract

Anaerobic ammonium oxidation (Anammox)is a recent discovery in the microbiology field. It is characterized of certain facultative or strict anaerobic autotrophic bacteria transferring NH2+-N and NO2 --N to N2under anaerobic condition.Anammox process has been widely studied and begun to be applied in biological wastewater treatment .Com-pared with existing process,Anammox process has obvious advantages. This paper reviews the progresses in fundamental research and application of the anaerobic ammonium oxidation. The possible mechanisms of reaction, the bacteria respon-sible for Anammox and the recently feasible treatment process are briefly introduced.
