Chromogenic reaction of ABBPDT with mercury and its application

Abstract

The 1 - azobenzene - 3 - (5 - bromo - 2 - pyridyl) - triazen e (ABBPDT) with mercury and its application have been discussed. In the buffer solution of Na2B47 - NaOH (pH11.5)and with the existence of surface active a gent of OP,ABBPDT reacts with mercury to form a red complex with n(Hg2+): n (ABBPDT)=1 ∶ 2. The absorp- tion maximum of the complex lies at 520 nm with an apparent molar absorptivity o f 1.81 × 105 L/(mol·cm). The Beer′s law is well obeyed in the range of 0 ~ 480 μg of mercury in 1 L. The method has been applied to the direct determinat ion of mercury in wastewater with satisfactory results.
