Abstract

Using time lapse video microscope system, the efect of magnetic treatment on the deposits precipitated from the supersaturated calcium carbonate solution has been studied. e results show that magnetic treatment increases the possibility of aragonite growing from solutions, and, when compared with the untreated ones, preci—pitats consists of more aragonite crystals and fewer calcite after the solutions are magnetically treated.During the whole experimental process,no chan ges between diferent crystal phases could be observe&There exists an optimum flow rate, within which the depo sits could be composed mostly of aragonite and a few vaterite crystals. These “soft”scales could be easily removed. So,at this velocity, magnetic treatment could have the best antiscale efect.
